We spoke with Buster about the trend towards natural beauty, why he swears by brown tubing mascara, and how anyone can recreate long, lifted, red-carpet lashes at home.
Let’s get into it.
Who Is Millie Bobby Brown?
Millie Bobby Brown is a British actress who rose to global fame playing Eleven in Stranger Things. Beyond acting, she’s an author, entrepreneur, and, thanks to her engagement to Jake Bongiovi, often affectionately referenced online as Millie Bonjiovi, although her real name is Millie Bonnie Brown Bongiovi.
Known for her fresh skin, soft glam, and modern red-carpet elegance, Millie often gravitates toward natural-looking beauty, which is exactly why Buster Knight’s lash philosophy works so well on her.
When Is Stranger Things Season 5 Coming Out?
Part 1 of Stranger Things Season 5 is coming to the UK on November 26th, with part 2 arriving later in December. We can expect to enjoy long Stranger Things episodes - with most averaging at over 1 hour in length. The premiere at the TCL Chinese Theatre on November 6, 2025, gave fans a first glimpse of the cast, and Millie’s beautifully lifted lashes that stole the spotlight.
Millie Bobby Brown’s MUA, Buster Knight’s, Red Carpet Lash Philosophy
Buster swears by tubing technology for all his celebrity clients, especially on high-stakes events like global premieres.
“It has all the benefits of waterproof mascara - it doesn’t smudge, it doesn’t move, I don’t have to worry about it on the red carpet- but also it’s really nice for my clients to wear, and they can take it off in one swipe.”
He adds that tubing formulas are now a non-negotiable in his kit:
“I tend to only use tubing mascaras in my kit, just because they’re more wearable. They lengthen the lash and they make the lash look thicker, but without having to add coats and coats of mascara.”
And his shade of choice?
“I prefer brown mascara, just because it’s softer and there’s a slight red to brown and so it makes the whites of the eyes look whiter and it makes the colours of the eyes pop a little bit more.”
What Is Tubing Mascara?
Tubing Mascara is made up of lash-wrapping polymers to provide a long-lasting, all-day wear that is waterproof. They…
- Don’t smudge
- Don’t flake
- Don’t run, even through sweat or long days
- Lift and lengthen with zero heaviness
- Come off effortlessly with warm water
It’s no surprise that tubing formulas are the top choice for industry pros, and why both our black tubing mascara and brown tubing mascara have become everyday staples.
How to Apply Mascara Like a Celebrity MUA
Buster shared exactly how he built Millie’s red-carpet lashes, and his method is surprisingly achievable.
“For long lifted-looking lashes, my method goes like this…
1. Use a lash curler. I love a heated lash curler too, or take the cotton off a cotton bud and gently heat that with a lighter (extra caution here!)
2. Apply the first coat of mascara
3. Comb lashes
4. Curl again
5. Lastly, I do another coat of mascara generally, but if using UKLASH Tubing Mascara, skip this step -you only need one coat!”
He also breaks down some classic mistakes when applying mascara:
“Top mistakes when applying mascara are the wiggle - that’s pointless, it doesn’t do anything. You don’t wiggle a hairbrush through your hair, you comb it. Also, applying too many coats of mascara without taking the excess off, that’s how you end up with clumps.”
And his favourite finishing touch?
“Don’t be scared to touch your lashes! I tend to use my fingers after, place them where I want them and pinch off the excess because the ends then look really wispy and natural.”
His overall aesthetic mirrors the current trend:
“Makeup is all about natural healthy skin, natural healthy lashes, natural healthy brows- nothing is too done, everything is soft, glowy, and fresh.”
How to Remove Tubing Mascara
If you’ve ever wondered how to remove tubing mascara, this is where tubing formulas truly shine.
Unlike waterproof mascaras that require rubbing or oil-based removers, tubing mascara simply slides off with:
- Warm water
- Gentle pressure
- No tugging, no residue
This is why Buster loves it for his clients:
“They can take it off in one swipe.”
It’s kinder to the lashes, easier on sensitive eyes, and perfect for daily wear.
Whether you’re recreating Millie’s soft glam or prepping for your own big moment, a high-quality tubing mascara makes all the difference. Long-lasting, smudge-proof, and gentle to remove—this is why pros like Buster Knight call it essential.
